About the Summit
Welcome to Montclair, NJ, and on behalf of the IFVP Board of Directors, we invite you to enjoy the conference experience and wish you happy learning, sharing, and networking.
In this emergent field, only about 40+ years old, and we are drawing in new people every day. People are seeing us at conferences, workshops, in business meetings, in their communities, and are recognizing the value of visuals. As interest in the field grows and demand for our services grow, how do we organize ourselves to support a growing field in a responsible and scalable way?
The International Forum of Visual Practitioners is the biennial (that means once every two years) conference for graphic recorders, visual facilitators, sketchnoters, visual consultants, UX designers, visual coaches, or anyone else who sits at the intersection of visuals and group processes. Over a hundred visual practitioners come together from all over the world to learn from each other, make connections, and enjoy each other’s talents and company. New books, tools, markers, methods, card decks, and resources will be demonstrated and available for purchase. Guido Neuland will be selling his latest markers and graphic walls, so bring your credit card. Expect workshops, panel discussions, keynotes, and enough paper on the walls to go to the moon and back. Rub elbows with the superstars of our field. This is it, folks: it’s the world’s fair of the visual practice.
Graphic facilitation
Graphic facilitation is a valuable business tool that simplifies complexity; brings clarity and consensus across groups; acts as a springboard for problem solving and solutioning; encourages participation; drives collaboration; and many other outcomes we are defining every day. Our work helps make the world of business, government, and community better. How do we better articulate our services and value? What are ways we can educate our clients about our work, how to use it, and how to talk about it?
We are proud to bring this year’s conference to a learning institution. Around the world there are many who are working to converge the fields of graphic facilitation and recording with education in surprising and powerful ways. Each new step is a brick in the path to broadening our field, reaching out to young minds, being part of academic studies, and enhancing our work. As we kickoff the IFVP Institute, expect to see more about pedagogy, certification, and learning pathways.
